Meet Crystal
My mother was a superb, crafty homemaker while also working part-time jobs at our local base grocery store and retail shops to help support our family. While I was in high school, my father was stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina, where he eventually retired and took on airplane maintenance at a nearby airport.
After graduating from Eastern Wayne High School, I pursued a degree in Media Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, graduating Magna Cum Laude as a first generation college graduate.
During my time at UNC-Greensboro, I met Craig, my partner of over 26 years. He's a dedicated state employee with more than 23 years of service.
Post-graduation, I worked in various roles, including at the Capital Defender’s Office, which confirmed my desire to attend law school. I earned my Juris Doctor Degree from Campbell University, driven by a passion for criminal defense work and a commitment to support underserved and underrepresented members of our communities. I interned at the Wake County Public Defender’s Office, then accepted a job as an Assistant Public Defender where I have had the pleasure of serving at the leisure of three incredible Chief Public Defenders since 2007.
I'm immensely proud of my Native American heritage as an active member of the Chickasaw Nation.
Outside of work, I cherish time with my family—Craig, our 5 ½-year-old son, and our two dogs. I'm involved in my son’s school, volunteering with the Parent-Teacher Association. My personal interests include gardening, reading, bargain shopping, watching football, and cooking.
